Subject: "(Let) Science Come Home"

Science is the engine of our culture; yet it has been a force for
good and evil.
Bringing us the capability for great material comfort, it also
brings the threat of materialism.  Bringing us great knowledge, it
increasingly contradicts basic common sense. Bringing us great
power such as the ability to clone our fellowman, it tells us nothing
of how to use it. Bringing us new knowledge, it has spurred
influential theologians to replace sound theology with old errors.
Bringing us detailed knowledge such as that of the atom, its
specialization results in many missing the forest for the trees.
While increasing the capacity for leisure time, it has created a
culture in which people are so busy they have no time for each
other or for leisure. Sunday is no longer a day of rest. The spiritual
life is relegated to a small corner. Science is obviously loose from
its mooring.
What's the remedy? As surprising as it may be to some,
Science must be brought back to its roots in the fertile and truly
human thinking of the Catholic Church that spawned it.
